1. What time is the beach open?

The beach opens seasonally dependent upon available lifeguard staff. The beach opens on daily basis starting the first week of June and beach hours are 10 am until 5 pm. This means there will be a lifeguard on duty (weather permitting) during those hours, seven days a week. The beach closes around the third week of August.

2. Does the beach water get tested on a regular basis?

Yes, the beach is tested on a weekly basis for fecal coliform counts. If the counts are too high (deemed by the testing agency), the beach will be closed and will be retested until the water is safe to swim in.

3. I noticed a down tree at a local park OR a tree fell onto my property from the local park, what should I do?

In either instance, please call the Park Maintenance department (262-691-7275) to report the issue. We will attempt to have the tree removed as quickly as possible.

4. I am looking for a part-time job with the park/recreation department, how do I apply?

Typically the Park/Recreation Department starts hiring for seasonal part-time employment for the summer in the recreation department and park maintenance department as early as March. Open positions will be posted on the City of Pewaukee's website under employment. If you are applying for a specialty instructor position, also include your resume or a summary of your skills and qualifications along with the application.  Individuals interested in teaching classes or offering new programs through the department should contact the Recreation Supervisor.  

5. What time are the parks open?

Parks are typically open during the peak season (May through September) from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. This means if there are restrooms available on site, we will have them open during those hours. During non-peak season, parks are still usable during those specified hours however restrooms will not be available.

6. How do I rent a park in the Pewaukee Park System?

There is detailed information regarding rentals including rates, guidelines and procedures on the Park/Recreation Department webpage under Rent A Park. To rent a park, you must call the office at 262-691-7275. You should have in mind what park you want to rent, what date, time, the number of people you expect to attend, and the purpose of the rental. Residents of both the Village and City of Pewaukee receive the resident rate for rentals - a resident MUST be the person making the rental for the resident rate to be given.

7. I noticed vandalism at a local park, who should I report it to?

We appreciate the watchful eyes of our residents to help us maintain the parks. We do not see every park every day so if you notice something regarding vandalism at one of the parks, please call our office at 262-691-7275 to report it. Or send us an email; be sure to let us know the park, exact location of the vandalism and what kind of vandalism it is (ie spray paint, broken equipment, etc.)

8. When do Joint Park and Recreation Meetings usually take place?

Joint Park and Recreation meetings are held on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 P.M. in the Common Council Chambers. See our the Board page for more information.

9. Do I need to send in payment if I am on a waitlist?

No. If you are on a waitlist for a class, payment does not need to be made. If you get into the program, the office will call you and at that time we will arrange for payment. Only cash or checks are acceptable forms of payment.

10. When are your program guides mailed?

Program guides are mailed to property tax payers for the fall/winter and winter/spring session. The summer session is mailed to all residents of the Village and City of Pewaukee based on the postal rural route. The winter/spring program guide is mailed in December, the summer guide is mailed in April and the fall/winter guide is mailed in August.

11. My child lost an item at one of your programs, do you have a lost and found?

If the program was held by the Park/Recreation Department, you may call our office at 262-691-7275 and we will check our lost and found items for you. Items are held in the Department's lost and found for two weeks, after which they are donated to Goodwill or some other charitable organization. The Park/Recreation Department does NOT hold lost and found items for the Pewaukee Soccer Club or Pewaukee Youth Baseball.

12. Can an exception be made for making the class bigger or allowing an age inappropriate child into the class?

No, programs are designed according to age and/or instructor/student ratios or level that will best benefit the student. Please do not ask us to exceed class limits or put your child in the wrong age or skill level.

13. I did not receive a program guide, where can I find them?

Fall/Winter and Winter/Spring program guides are mailed directly to property tax payers in the City and Village. Summer program guides are mailed to residents based on the postal rural route therefore includes non-property tax payers as well. Program guides are always available for pickup at Village Hall, City Hall and the Pewaukee Public Library. We also post our most current guide on this website – see Park/Recreation Department for more information. If you are not a Pewaukee resident and would like to receive our program guides, please call 262-691-7275 and ask to be placed on the mailing list.

14. Why are some programs canceled?

In the program guide, under the description of each program, we list in italics a minimum and maximum for each class. We will cancel a class if it does not meet the minimum. The minimum is the basis at which the program fees cover the cost to run the program. If a program is canceled because it does not reach its minimum, then registrants are issued a full refund.

15. My child has to miss a class, do you prorate?

We do not prorate for any programs. If you register after the program starts or if you are going to miss a class, we will not prorate that class.

16. What is your refund policy?

Full refunds will not be issued unless a program is cancelled by the Park/Recreation Department. Participants who request a refund not less than 1 week prior to the first day of the program will receive a 50% refund. Requests within 1 week of program start or after program start will not receive a refund except in the case of a medical reason document by a physician or if the individual’s spot can be filled by an individual on a wait list.

17. Can I get a credit for a program if I cancel rather than a refund minus the refund service fee?

The Department does not offer a credit system at this time. Any registration cancellations will result in a refund. Refunds typically take 3 to 4 weeks to be processed and mailed back to participants.

18. How will I know if I got into a program I registered for if I mail in my registration?

We will send a receipt via email to all participants that provide an email address. If you would like a hard copy receipt, please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope. We will not provide any further updates on regularly scheduled program information.

19. How do I know if a program requires me to list my t-shirt size on the registration form?

Any program that provides participants with a t-shirt will have a t-shirt symbol (t-shirt inside a circle) listed next to the program name. When you see that symbol, be sure to list your t-shirt size on your registration form.

20. How do you decide what programs to offer?

The Department strives to offer programs that the community wants and needs. However many of our programs are limited to what facility space we have available, whether or not we can find an instructor for the program and also what the current program trends are.

21. Are Park & Recreation classes inclusive?

Pewaukee Parks and Recreation Department (the “Department”) encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in recreational programming. To that end, the Department offers inclusive recreational programs and activities. The term “Inclusion” means that individuals with disabilities are “included” in our recreation programs. People with and without disabilities participate together in the same way, in the same place, and enjoy the same benefits. Our Department is pleased to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations.

22. Are there program scholarships available?

23. Do you take photos of classes?

Pewaukee Parks and
Recreation may take photos of our programs for promotional purposes. If you do
not wish to have your photo taken, please notify the photographer and our
office.
