Email Scam Alert

We want to inform you about a recent scam email targeting local residents and businesses.  These emails may appear to be from the City of Pewaukee, but they are not.  The goal of this recent scam email is to trick you into paying an invoice for a permit.  Here's how to spot this scam: 

 

1. Suspicious email address: Please check the sender's email address carefully, if the email is not from the City's email domain (pewaukee.wi.us) do not respond to it.  

 

2. Scam emails often appear to be urgent, asking you to "act now", or asking you to make an online payment.  

 

3. Be wary of unexpected attachments or links asking you to provide sensitive or personal information.  

 

4. Many scam emails also contain unusual language, spelling errors, or odd phrasing.  

 

If you receive an email like this, DO NOT reply or respond to it, DO NOT open attachments or click on any links.  Instead verify that the sender's email address is from the City (pewaukee.wi.us).  If you are unable to verify the email address, please contact the City of Pewaukee at 262-691-0770.
