Basin Maintenance

Stormwater ponds and other basins help properly detain runoff in designated areas, minimizing the potential to flood roadways and properties. Presentation slides from a recent information meeting on the importance of stormwater basins and procedures to properly maintain them are available for viewing.

Concerning muskrat removal, under the authorities provided in NR12.10, muskrats damaging dikes, dams, shorelines (including shorelines of stormwater ponds), and roadways can be removed by landowners or occupants of the land at any time of the year. A landowner or occupant is not required to have a permit, and the removal timing is not restricted to the muskrat trapping season.

Alternatively, a landowner or occupant may solicit an agent to aid in the removal of muskrats causing damage. The agent must have a valid trapping license and must obtain written permission from the landowner or occupant.
