Quiet Zones
The City of Pewaukee is considering options for quiet zones at railroad crossings within city limits. Some crossings require assistance from other municipalities or Waukesha County, and Pewaukee will coordinate as necessary. With these quiet zones, passing trains would not sound their horns as they approach these crossings, instead relying on newly installed safety measures. These safety measures may include additional gates at crossings, raised medians, and conveyance flags.
The Weyer Road crossing has been submitted to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) for review and approval. This can take up to 18 months to obtain the approval. Once approved, the improvements will be constructed and the final application for the quiet zone will be completed.
The Watertown Road crossing is under design discussion with Waukesha County. Once final approval of the design is obtained, the improvements will be constructed and the final application for the quiet zone will be completed. This will be completed at the same time as the Weyer Road crossing.
The Green Road crossing has a preliminary design. The improvements will be constructed and the final application for the quiet zone will be completed at the same time as the Weyer Road crossing.
The Springdale Road crossing is being completed by the City of Brookfield with the City of Pewaukee funding a portion of the project.
The Duplainville Road crossing has been analyzed. The final application for the quiet zone will be completed at the same time as the Weyer Road crossing.
The Parkside Road crossing will be studied for a quiet zone crossing in 2025. This quiet zone crossing is coordinated with the Village of Pewaukee’s Kopmeier crossing.
